Enter your email or phone number and we'll send you a 6-digit code. There are no passwords. New accounts sign up with an email, and you can add your phone too, then sign in with either. If your account only has a phone, you'll be asked to add an email the next time you sign in. Once you're signed in, you stay signed in on that device as long as you open the app at least every few months.
No. The invite email (or the text your organizer sends you from their phone) has a link where you can say you're in or out without signing in. You can make an account later to see all your games in one place.
Invites waiting for your answer are at the top. Below them, Upcoming Games lists every game you're in, on the waiting list for, or organizing, by date. Games you organize have light blue cards.
A game stays there until an hour after it ends, then moves to Show past games, which lists the games you organized or played in.
Yes. Can You Play? follows your phone or computer: turn on dark mode in its settings and the app switches with it.
An admin gave you access to see every game at that location. Tap it to see its upcoming and past games and who's in. You can only look: you can't change the games, and you see players' names only, not their phone numbers or emails.
Any of these work:
Yes. Open the game in My Games and tap Cancel My Spot. Your spot opens up for someone else. If you said no and change your mind, tap Change to Accept (if the game is full, you go on the waiting list).
Open the invite (the app notification, the link in the email, or the game in My Games) and tap Stop inviting me to future games. Saying you can't make one week doesn't take you off the list. You can tap Invite me again to undo it.
Tap Join waitlist. You go on the waiting list in the order people joined it. If someone drops out, the first person on the list is moved in automatically and told they're in. Your place in line shows on the game.
If the organizer saved a round robin, it's on the game in My Games, under Round robin. Your name is highlighted in each round, so you can see your partners, your opponents, and when you sit out.
Get the free Can You Play? app and turn on notifications. Invites and changes show up on your phone the moment they're sent, and you can answer with one tap. If your account has an email, you get them by email too. Game invites don't come by text.
Only the sign-in codes you ask for (when you sign in with your phone number) and the code to confirm a phone you add. Game invites, reminders and updates come by app notification or email. An organizer may text you an invite link from their own phone.
Go to My Account → Notifications to turn game emails on or off. In the phone app, push notifications are turned on or off in your phone's Settings (there's a button there to get to it). Sign-in codes are always sent, so you can still get into your account. Each game message comes as an app notification if you have the app, and an email if you have one (with game emails on).
Yes. Every game has a Chat tab next to Players (a number on it means new messages), for the organizer and everyone who said they're in. If you haven't answered, said no or are on the waiting list, you won't see it or get its messages until you're in. Use it for "running late", "anyone want my spot?" or "who's bringing balls?".
New messages come as an app notification, and if you have an email, a short email at most every few hours. Tap Mute in a game's chat to stop them. You can delete your own messages (organizers can delete any). The chat closes a day after the game.
If you haven't answered an invite yet, we may send a reminder so the organizer knows whether to count you in. Answering the invite stops the reminders.
If you're in, you get one reminder the morning before the game, with a link to it. Can't make it after all? Tap the link and change your answer so someone else can have your spot.
In My Account, tap the pencil next to your name, change your first or last name, and tap Save. Organizers and other players see the new name right away.
In My Account, tap the pencil next to your email, or Change number for your phone. We'll send a code to the new one to confirm it.
Yes. Sign in to the account you want to keep, go to My Account, and add the phone number or email from your other account. Enter the code we send, then tap Combine the two accounts.
Your invites, games you organize, and groups move over, and from then on you can sign in with either. An account has one phone number and one email, so if both accounts had a phone, the one you just added is kept.
In My Account, tap My stats. It shows your record and point differential from every round robin that was scored, your 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishes, and how many games you've played, with each round robin listed.
Yes. On any game from them, tap Report or block. Blocking stops them inviting you and takes you out of their groups; reporting tells us so we can look into it. You can unblock people in My Account.
Go to My Account and tap Delete account at the bottom. This permanently deletes your account, your invites, and any games you organize. If you can't sign in, email support from the email or phone on your account and we'll delete it for you.
Tap New Game (the + button), choose the activity, and fill in where and when, how long it runs, how many players, and the cost per player if there is one. You can also give the game a name, like “Saturday doubles”: it shows as the game's title with the place underneath. Then you'll pick who to invite.
Yes. Who you've picked on the invite screen (and their order) is saved as you go. Tap Back to game, or just leave, and nothing is sent; open Invite Players again and your picks are still there, on any device and for your co-organizers too. Anyone who was invited in the meantime is left off. Once you send, the saved list is cleared.
The less-used options are tucked under Advanced on the Invite Players screen, so the main steps stay simple. Tap it and a sheet slides up with Prioritize invites, Urgent, Repeats and Sub list. Tap Done and they're saved with the game. A short note under the name shows what's turned on.
You don't need any of it to set up a game and invite people.
People you've played with before, people from your phone's contacts (in the app — start typing a name to find them), or anyone by phone number or email. Contacts who are already on Can You Play? show up as players. Invites go by app notification or email, with a link to respond (a contact with an email gets it by email). For someone with neither, tap Game Invite Link or the text button next to their name to text them from your own phone. You can pick more people than there are spots — everyone is invited, and the first to say yes get in.
On the game and invite screens, the Can You Play? logo next to a name means they're on the app. Not signed up yet means they haven't signed in: they still get invites by email if you have their email, and can answer from the link. Text the rest the game invite link from your own phone. Write-in means you added just their name.
Yes — write them in. On the invite screen, tap Write in, type their name, and tap Add to game. They're counted as in, but they never get any notifications or emails. If someone turns up after the game has started, tap Write in a player on the game (until an hour after it ends).
Someone with that name is already on Can You Play?, maybe under a different phone or email. If it's the same person, tap them so they keep one account (they're invited the usual way). If not, tap No, someone new.
Yes. On the invite screen, tap Game Invite Link. Copy the link into a text or group chat, or let someone next to you scan the QR code. Anyone who opens it is invited to the game (and can join the app if they're new). If the game is already full when they say yes, they go on the waiting list. (With Prioritize on, they join the end of your list instead and wait their turn.)
There are three, and each one says what it's for:
Game invite link (on the invite screen): invites them to this game. Group invite link (on a group): adds them to that group. App invite link (Invite to App on My Games): just gets them on Can You Play?, in your list of players for next time.
Each comes with the same three steps (sign up, get the app, sign in). Copy or Text it sends them with the link.
Yes. On the invite screen, open Advanced, turn on Prioritize invites and choose when everyone else on the list is invited: after people have gone a while without answering (2 hours unless you change it), or at a set time before the game. Then pick people: they line up in Invite order in the order you picked them.
To change the order, use the arrows to move someone up or down one spot, or tap their number and type a new spot (say, 5) to move them straight there. Handy on a long list.
When you send, only enough people to fill the open spots are invited; the rest are on hold and aren't told anything yet. Whenever a spot opens (someone says no or drops out), the next person in line is invited. When the time you chose comes (the wait runs out with someone still not answering, or the set time before the game), everyone still on hold is invited at once, and the first to say yes get the spots. Once the game is full, people still on hold aren't invited.
To invite someone on hold right away, ahead of their turn, tap Invite now next to their name on the game's On hold tab (on a phone, it's in the ··· menu). If the game is full when they say yes, they go on the waiting list.
To fill a dropped spot faster, set When a spot opens up, invite the next to 2 or more. Each spot that opens then invites that many people, and the first to say yes gets it; anyone else who says yes goes on the waiting list. The first round of invites is always one per spot.
People you add later go to the end of the line. Phone contacts you pick in the app aren't part of the order; they're invited right away. The setting is saved with the game, and while anyone is on hold it stays on, since the wait is what lets them in.
Open the game and tap Remind all next to No Response. The window shows two lists: people the app reminds for you (by app notification or email), and people it can't reach. For those, tick who to include and tap Group text to send one text from your own phone. Anyone invited or reminded in the last hour is skipped.
People who haven't answered also get up to two reminders on their own: two days before the game and the day before.
On the invite screen, open Advanced and turn on Urgent when the game is coming up soon and needs players. Its invites and reminders start with “URGENT Pickleball request” (or whatever the activity is), and players see an Urgent tag.
Yes — add a co-organizer. On the game, tap Add a co-organizer (under the date) and pick someone. They get a note, and can edit the game, invite people, send reminders, change who's in, and cancel it. Only you (or an admin) can change who the co-organizers are.
A co-organizer can tap Step down to stop helping.
A group is your own list of regulars (tap My Groups at the top of My Games), so you can invite them all with one tap. Only you see your groups: the people in them don't see the group or who else is in it. If someone wants out, take them off the group.
Each group can have a group invite link you share however you like — anyone who opens it can join the group (and the app, if they're new). Turn on approval if you want to OK each person first. You can make a new link or turn it off any time.
On a group you can add people who are already on Can You Play?. Someone new joins with the group invite link: Copy or Text it sends the link with three steps (sign up, get the app, sign in).
Spots go to whoever says yes first. Once every spot is taken, the game is marked full and you're notified. Anyone who says yes after that goes on a waiting list, in the order they answered. If someone drops out, the first person on the waiting list is moved in automatically and told they're in.
Yes, for pickleball. On the game, tap Round robin. It makes doubles matches (4 players per court) from everyone who's in, mixes up partners and opponents, and takes turns sitting people out. Choose the number of courts and rounds, untick anyone who didn't show up, and tap Shuffle for a different draw.
Playing on, say, courts 7 and 12? Open Court numbers and type the number each court has at the facility. Everyone sees those numbers, on the TV too, and you can change them after saving without losing any scores.
Tap Save for everyone so all the players see the same draw on the game. You can also Copy it or Text it.
To put it up on a TV, tap Show on TV (players on the game have the button too, so anyone at the courts can run it). It shows one round at a time in big type, with Back / Next and a countdown timer you set (it beeps when time's up). Turn your phone sideways and use Screen Mirroring (AirPlay) or casting to show it on the TV. The buttons fade away after a few seconds; tap the screen to bring them back.
Scores: tap a match to enter its score (on the round robin, the game page, or the TV). Organizers and players who are in can score. Standings show as soon as one match is scored, ranked by win percentage, then point differential. When every match has a score, the winner, 2nd and 3rd are crowned. On the TV, tap the trophy (or Next after the last round) to show the standings. Running long or short? Organizers can Add a round (drawn fairly after the ones played) or End early after any round, on the round robin or the TV. The TV timer moves in 30-second steps. Someone has to leave, or shows up late? Tap Player left or Player joined: rounds already played stay as they are, and the rest are drawn again without them or with them. Standings rank by win percentage, then point differential, so playing fewer matches isn't held against anyone.
Yes. Open the game from My Games and tap Edit to change the details, or Cancel to call it off — everyone who's in, on the waiting list or hasn't answered gets a cancellation notice. You can also mark someone as in or out for them, resend an invite, or duplicate the game to set up the next one. Once a game has started it can't be changed — Duplicate it to play again.
Yes. On the invite screen, open Advanced and choose Repeats: every week, every 2 weeks, or monthly (like “the 2nd Tuesday”). You can have it end on a date or after a number of games.
30 minutes after each game ends, the next one is set up automatically with the same details and the same people invited, and you get a note that it's done. You can change when that happens under Invite to the next game, from right when the game ends to 2 days after. Changes you make to the latest game carry over to the next one.
Each next game invites the same people as the one before it. To invite a group instead, pick it under Who to invite to each next game: each game then invites whoever is in that group at the time, so adding or removing people from the group changes who's invited. People who asked to stop being invited to the series still aren't.
Cancelling one game skips that week. To end the series, tap Stop repeating on the game.
Open Repeating games (the link under the title on My Games while one is running, or Change schedule on the game's page) and tap the game. You can change how often it repeats, when it ends, where and when the next game is, how many can play, the cost, and the sub list. It works between games too, after the last one has been played and before the next one is set up.
Your changes are used for the games set up from then on. If the next game is already set up, you can update it too (its time and who's invited are changed from its own page). You can also stop the series there. Stopped ones move under Stopped at the bottom of the page, where you can start them again later.
Yes, with a Sub list. On the invite screen, open Advanced, turn on Sub list, and choose how long before the game they should be invited (from 1 hour to 2 days). Then pick a group, specific players, or both.
At that time, if the game still has an open spot, everyone on the sub list is invited at once, and the first to say yes gets in. If the game is full then, it keeps checking until the game starts, so if someone drops out later, the subs are invited then. People already invited, and you, are skipped. Each game invites its subs once.
A repeating game uses the same sub list for every game. Only you and your co-organizers can see it. The game shows who is on it and when they're invited.
